| Tasty is all about teaching people easy ways to make delicious food. What’s one piece of advice you would give to someone who says cooking is too hard? Don't let anxiety take over your time in the kitchen! Cooking is fun. Every time, we sauté a vegetable or sear a steak, we're engaging in a shared connection with humanity. Food brings the world together in so many ways, so you should revel in that while you're cooking rather than harping on whether or not you've done something perfectly. Also, add salt. How do you compare the evolution of food in media from cooking shows to now digital platforms like Tasty? This evolution was a product of the shift from aspirational media to accessible media. We make content so that people get the most out of it, rather than showcasing the meals and ideals of one small sliver of society. It's interesting to think about, but our signature top-down style helped place people in the mind of the video. You see the hands and they could be your hands making it. We focus on those super satisfying moments so that they stick with you beyond the scope of a 90-second video. What’s your favorite Tasty recipe you’ve ever made, worked on, or seen on social media? Ooh, this is a toughie. Buffalo chicken mozzarella sticks have a soft spot in my heart because it was my second video for Tasty and it did super well. I love our ultimate brownies that Claire King and I developed and shot for Tasty 101. Any dessert, really. I have a huge sweet tooth. What’s one ingredient you can’t live without? Hot sauce. Like any good southern boy. What’s the craziest moment you’ve ever experienced in the Tasty kitchen? My first time working with Marcus Samuelsson (Tasty's Executive Chef-in-Residence) was like a dream sequence. He's been someone I looked up to for a while, and I was so nervous going into it. He made his block party ribs (which are unreal) and laughed and joked with us like we were old college buddies. He invited us to a party at his restaurant later that night and that was the first time I had to pinch myself at work. He's just the coolest guy. (Side note: He referred to me as "my friend Vaughn" the other day and my world literally stopped turning.) |
