| Tasty is all about teaching people easy ways to make delicious food. What’s one piece of advice you would give to someone who says cooking is too hard? I would say the best thing someone can do to ease into cooking is cook with a friend or family member. Cooking with someone you love makes it a lot more enjoyable. On top of that, if that friend or family member has a favorite dish, then start by making that with them. I learned to cook with my grandmother, and her passion and love for the dishes we made always came through. To this day, I still have Helga's Meatballs on the Red Rooster menu in her honor. How do you compare the evolution of food in media from cooking shows to now digital platforms like Tasty? I mean, I remember what a huge deal it was when Julia Child and Jacques Pépin really began the food media movement and the visibility it gave chefs in a way that had never been done before. I think this new digital movement of food media is expanding that visibility on a global scale and engaging the next generation in food and cooking in a new way. Tasty is really increasing the access to recipes and food, which gives people the confidence to experiment in the kitchen in ways that haven't been seen before. What’s your favorite Tasty recipe you’ve ever made, worked on, or seen on social media? I think for sure the most memorable is the first video I ever did with Tasty, the fried chicken video back in 2016. For me, it was just such a cool, new way of shooting food and I really saw that as the beginning of something really profound in the food media space. What’s one ingredient you can’t live without? Berbere will always have a special place in my pantry because connects me to my family and roots in Ethiopia. My wife, Maya, always makes sure we have some at the house because it's such a versatile spice blend; it goes great on everything from eggs in the morning to your favorite pasta dish. What are you most looking forward to doing with Tasty in this talent program?I'm really looking forward to seeing this great group of creators grow, and I can't wait to help them on their journeys, whatever that may look like. I'm also excited to create content that speaks to positive trends in the food space like sustainability. |
